Zuma, Gaddafi, and an exit strategy

Shoot to kill… who?

A worrying story caught my eye, over the weekend.

National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele on Saturday said the number of cops killed in the line of duty has significantly increased, compared to 2010 figures.
Cele said around seven officers were being killed every month. Since the start of 2011, some 36 police officials have been killed. [EWN]

One must wonder whether or not Bheki Cele’s “tough guy” attitude is working. In short, was Martin Luther King correct?

Does “shooting to kill” beget shooting to kill?

Forget English, she still wants me

Like most of us, I’m a member of a few social networks. And like most of us, I ignore the majority of spam messages. However, now and then, a gem catches my eye.

Please make sure that you write me direct to my mail box ( orizabel1@hotmail.com )

Well, other than directly to “her” inbox, where else would I send my reply? The local zoo’s finance department?

But what makes this message funny is that it was also sent in another language. You know, just in case I don’t speak English and, by some wild stab-in-the-dark chance, I happen to understand German.

I’ve been contemplating sending a reply.

But in Japanese and Spanish.

Abortion: for proper family planning, womb cleansing and itching vaginas

Despite the obvious quackery, the marketing seems to work, as worryingly evidenced by the torn bits at the bottom.

The “doctor” guarantees, with 100% certainty, that having an abortion via his methods will be “safe & pain free”. In fact, the patient’s womb will be cleansed and her vagina will stop itching (probably originating from those annoying STDs). What a bargain!

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines an unsafe abortion as being “a procedure … carried out by persons lacking the necessary skills or in an environment that does not conform to minimal medical standards, or both.”

An estimated 42 million abortions are performed annually with 20 million of those abortions done unsafely around the world.[Wikipedia]

I’ll guarantee, with 100% certainty, that having an abortion via tacky con artistry will fall into the latter statistic.
