I received a great compliment from my BFF

I won’t reveal who it is from because it might just ruin our friendship.

Thankfully, she isn’t one of those politically correct, easily offended, too-serious-for-their-own-good types of people.

Because, honestly, can you imagine if she were?

Epic surfing wipeouts

Surfing is fantastic if you’re not being eaten by a shark or face-planting the coral seabed.

Or wiping out.

Here is a compilation of impressive wipeouts. Pay particular attention to the size of the waves.

Meanwhile, it’s time for a swim in my inflatable baby pool.

Bungee jumping fail

On New Year’s Eve, a 22-year-old girl survived a 111-metre fall, at Victoria Falls, after her bungee cord snapped. To make her no-strings-attached adventure more thrilling, Erin Langworthy landed in the Zambezi River (which, apparently, includes the odd crocodile) and was dragged by the current until she managed to secure herself (and cord) on a rock or two.

She is currently back in hospital because – like the bungee cord – her lungs aren’t working properly.

Expectedly, the country’s tourism department and tour boss have gone into damage control overdrive.

ZAMBIA’S Tourism Minister took a bungee jump on the Victoria Falls Bridge on Monday in a bid to reassure tourists, days after a rope snapped and sent an Australian 22-year-old woman plunging into the Zambezi River.

Company boss Mike Davies said the accident was a “one-off”, adding: “There has been over 150,000 people jumping over the last 17 years without incident.”[via]

Well, Mike, I know of a 22-year-old girl who will argue that there has indeed been an incident.

Safari Par Excellence’s website, of course, makes no mention of the event. Additionally, they’ll have to update their promotional material’s “100% safety record” to a more truthful “99.994% safety record”. Erin will appreciate that, I’m sure.

And perhaps the company’s name could be reviewed; “Safari Subpar Excellence” doesn’t roll too badly off the tongue.

One thing’s for sure. It will take a lot to top her epic New Year’s Eve story.

Update

Safari Par Excellence’s website has since been updated with a press release from themselves and from Victoria Falls Bungee.

My apologies to Safari Par Excellence; I confused them with Victoria Falls Bungee. To be clear, Safari Par Excellence are the booking agents, while Victoria Falls Bungee are the company in question. (So, simply switch the names while reading this blog post.)

Fantastic little video game

If you have a moment, then give this video game a go. It will make no sense initially, but keep going. You will understand why.

Not sure about you, but I now feel enlightened and ready for the next level.
